Information for Community Housing Tenants and Applicants

On 1 August 2004 the Community Housing External Appeals System became mandatory for all NSW Community Housing Providers that offer long term leases to clients under the NSW residential tenancies legislation.

This means that an external avenue of appeal is available for all community housing clients (Co-operatives and Housing Associations) who fall within, or would potentially fall within, the definition of 'tenant' in the Residential Tenancies Act. Currently an external appeals process is not available to those clients residing in crisis or supported accommodation who have specific service agreements and are not on a lease.
